Heather N. Warren Sewing Bio

Heather Warren’s love for sewing began young at the age of eight. She competed in 4H with her sewing projects for eleven years where she won several state and county construction and fashion awards. Heather is very familiar with a variety of fabrics and sewing techniques. Heather has experience working with and selling sergers, embroidery machines, quilting machines and embroidery software. She worked for six years at the Bernina Sewing Studio in Lubbock, Texas. In Lubbock she taught a number of classes on serger technique, machine basics, garment construction, embroidery, software and quilting. Heather is a skilled seamstress and has sewn on a variety of machine brands including Bernina, Singer, Viking and Janome. One of Heather’s favorite machines is the serger because of the machine’s versatility and speed. Heather has constructed entire garments, crafts and even entire quilt tops using only a serger. Morning Serger Theory
This class entails a quick overview of the theory behind serging. We will cover threading, decorative threads, appropriate tensions for decorative and extremely fine threads as well as troubleshooting for various fabrics. We will learn how the tension dials affect stitch formation and learn to intuitively adjust the tensions, differential feed, presser foot pressure and stitch length for a variety of fabrics. We will also cover main stitch formations: 4-thread, 3- thread, 2-thread and cover stitch. Along with stitch formations we will explore a variety of techniques for each including: inside and outside corners, finishing seams, circles and rolled hems.

Afternoon Beyond the Basics: Theory in Motion
This class takes the basic elements of serger technique and explores the endless possibilities of using your serger. This class will explore the different ways to use your serger stitches. For example, learn how to create a 2-thread blanket stitch on your serger or use your cover stitches and flatlock stitches as decoration. We will use some of the accessory feet available for your serger as well as learn techniques with the feet like gathering, making cording or serger piping, applying beading and elastics. We will also learn how to streamline your sewing projects between serger and sewing machine by exploring the latest sewing and serging techniques. Additionally, we will learn how to use our serger to make quilt piecing faster, neater and easier.

Learning to sew can be fun, easy and most of all useful. Get rid of all those plastic grocery bags and come join us to learn how to make your own grocery shopping Green Bags and discover numerous sewing techniques along the way. Each month will feature a different technique including: reading patterns, sewing on various types of fabrics, appliqué, simple quilting, decorative stitching, trapunto, bobbinwork, coloring on fabric and even embroidery. Attend one class or sign up for them all either way these classes will be fun and educational. 2. Appliqué. Items and techniques covered: Using transferable web, various appliqué stitches and styles of appliqué, stabilizers, choosing fabrics and threads for your appliqué.
3. Simple Line Quilting. Items and techniques covered: Choosing batting and fabric for quilting, using various stitches, patterns and threads, how to quilt with your machine, tools to make quilting easier including machine accessories.
4. Free Motion Quilting. Items and techniques covered: Free motion movement with your machine, threads for free motion work, accessories to make free motion quilting easier and more successful and patterns of free motion (stippling, stars and loops, paw prints, hearts, etc.).
5. Embroidery: Items and techniques covered: Using your embroidery machine, selecting threads, choosing stabilizers, accessories for embroidery, embroidery placement and personalizing your Green Bag.
6. Coloring on Fabric: Items and techniques covered: Choosing fabrics and patterns for coloring, how to set color into fabrics.
7. Trapunto: Items and techniques covered: Selecting patterns for trapunto, tools to make trapunto successful, fabric selection.
8. Decorative Threadwork and Couching Cords. Items and techniques covered: Choosing decorative stitches, machine accessories for cord couching and decorative stitches, selecting cords and beads for couching, tools for successful decorative work, using stabilizers and using various decorative threads.
9. Bobbinwork. Items and techniques covered: How to use decorative threads in your bobbin case, choosing stabilizers and decorative threads.

How do I Do That? Embroidery

Have you ever wondered how to tackle a particular embroidery project? Or why your embroidery came out bumpy and lumpy? Maybe the embroidery design simply became lost in the fabric never to be seen again! This lecture style seminar is designed to help you with all of your embroidery activities, difficulties, uncertainties and catastrophes. We will discuss the types of stabilizers, threads and accessories to use to make your embroidery perfect no matter what type of project. Additionally, we will talk about embroidering on a variety of fabrics and garments including: fleeces, sweatshirts, t-shirts, baby’s onsies, sheers, laces, towels and denims. We will also learn how to turn some embroidery designs into an appliqué piece or patch.
